Plans have been approved for the new Dhs128 billion terminals at Al Maktoum International Airport which will make it the world’s largest capacity airport once completed.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, announced the plans on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday April 28.
Once the project is completed, Al Maktoum International Airport will be five times the size of the current Dubai International Airport which is already the world’s busiest for international passengers.
It will be able to accommodate up to 260 million passengers once completed which will see all operations currently at DXB move to the new airport within 10 years.
There will be more than 400 aircraft gates, five parallel with the highest operational specifications and a total of five passenger terminal buildings.
New aviation technologies will be employed for the first time in the sector at the airport.

Al Maktoum International Airport will also see a whole new city built around it in Dubai South which will see demand for housing for a million people.
The new city will host the world’s leading companies in the logistics and air transport sectors which will bring a whole host of new jobs to Dubai.
HH Sheikh Mohammed said that the new airport is an investment in the future of Dubai.
He said: “We are building a new project for future generations, ensuring continuous and stable development for our children and their children in turn.
“Dubai will be the world’s airport, its port, its urban hub, and its new global centre.”
The current Al Maktoum International Airport, also known as Dubai World Central, in Jebel Ali has been operational since 2010.
